Abdullah Azzam was a Palestinian Islamist preacher who helped found al-Qaeda, Hamas, and Lashkar-e-Taiba. He is often referred to as the father of global jihad and was instrumental in recruiting foreign fighters to Afghanistan in the 1980s.
